It’s getting close to tulip time again on Table Cape. During the month of October the area explodes into dazzling carpets of tulips across the rich, volcanic farmlands. (See some of my amateur photos.)

Our neighbours at the iconic Table Cape Tulip Farm, the Roberts-Thomson family, are already in preparation for a massive influx of local, interstate and overseas visitors to their beautiful property. It’s a mecca for tourists, and especially photographers, who return every year to stroll through the spectacularly colourful fields – possibly the largest in the southern hemisphere that you can actually wander through. Tiptoeing through these tulips could not be lovelier.

The tulip shed is filled with glorious displays, there’s art for sale and “Tunes in the Tulips” (October 6 this year) is a fabulous community event in the shed.

The Tulip Farm is open for visitors this year from 26th September until end of October.

The annual Wynyard Tulip Festival is also a popular drawcard to the area - Held on the Inglis River foreshore, it promises a day of festivities, art, craft, market stalls and music and a fireworks display in the evening.

This year’s Festival is on Saturday October 12.

So time to think about your accommodation. It’s the very best and most popular time of year to visit the area so finding accommodation can be difficult if you leave it to the last minute.
